 How to Save Democracy

There are some things in this country that belong to all Americans and are too valuable to be entrusted to any individuals. In order to preserve these things for all, we trust the government to secure them under lock and key. They are to be displayed in prominent places, available for public view, and reverently regarded but not accessible by those who might defile them with wear and tear. We all know of these things, like the original Declaration of Independence, George Washington’s uniform, the original Star Spangled Banner, and Abraham Lincoln’s top hat, just to name a few.

Lately, a few other shared American valuables have come under threat of being despoiled by the masses. Fortunately, some patriots have stepped up to protect these treasures and secure them away from primitive and uncultured rubes. The most important of which is Democracy.

The source of America’s Democracy is our Constitution. The original copy of the Constitution is almost 250 years old, written on parchment which would be dust by now were it not locked away from the common man’s reach. Just as we must protect its source, Democracy itself must be removed from the grimy hands of those who don’t appreciate its intrinsic value, its incredible beauty, and enduring contribution to equity. Rather, they would defile Democracy by voting for someone with whom they agree, rather than someone who would move this country forward.

Some mistake the right to vote as the right to vote for whomever they want. How ridiculous! The right to vote comes with the responsibility to be informed. Yet, the world is full of misinformation. Therefore, the government must protect the masses from these sources of misinformation just as Zelenskyy has done for the people of Ukraine. Clearly, Ukraine is a beacon of Democracy, a shining example that we should strive to emulate. When media in Ukraine began broadcasting information that was in opposition to Zelenskyy, he simply consolidated all the TV platforms into one state broadcast. It was entirely a reasonable way to limit the spread of misinformation. Perhaps our government should consider doing the same by getting rid of FOX and Newsmax and limiting all news and information to being distributed by an unbiased and universally trusted source like CNN or MSNBC.

Another thing that Ukraine is teaching us about Democracy, is how to purify the government. As I pointed out above, the right to vote doesn’t mean you have the right to vote for whomever you want. In Ukraine, Zelenskyy announced Poroshenko, Ukraine’s former president, was being investigated for treason. Also, he suspended eleven political parties and dismissed their elected members because they were pro-Russian. Now that Zelenskyy has control of the media, people won’t be voting disloyalists into office anymore.

People are not only influenced by the media; they are also influenced by money. Those who are spreading misinformation need to have their wealth confiscated so that they no longer have the means to poison the minds of others. Needless to say, Ukraine is again leading the way! Zelenskyy arrested and seized the assets of billionaire Viktor Medvedchuk because of his suspected association with Putin.

The foregoing facts prove that Ukraine is at the tip of the spear in the defense of Democracy. However, President Zelenskyy leaves nothing to chance, especially the chance that ignorant people might not know what’s best for them. Therefore, in the ultimate defense of Democracy, he’s even cancelled elections! It is no wonder that our government has sent so many billions of dollars in support of Ukraine with an unconditional promise for billions more. Ukraine has demonstrated the need to preserve and protect such a valuable commodity as Democracy, not only from the invading Russian hordes, but from the ignorant masses within who might desecrate it by voting for the wrong person.

Thank goodness we have Congressmen and women, Senators, a justice department, district attorneys, media, internet moguls, and even plain old everyday civil servants doing everything they can to protect Democracy. Lock it up! Get it away from the irresponsible. Keep the populace from voting for the wrong person…again.
